Home prices decline slightly in April

Home prices in April of 2014 declined slightly from the previous month but rose 8.8% from a year ago. The median price for April was $154,450 for 735 sales. The median square footage was 1,788. One month earlier, March 2014, the median price was $157,700 with a median square footage of 1,825.
 
Despite the month-to-month decline, price rose over a 12 month period. The median price in April 2013 was $142,000 with a median square footage of 1,840. In contrast to the yearly rise in prices, the volume of sales declined 6.5% from 786 sales in April 2013.
