San Tan Valley, AZ -Pinal County Attorney Kent Volkmer has partnered with Visiting Angels Living Assistance Services and Integrity Hospice Care to host a community Shred-A-Thon at Poston Butte High School in San Tan Valley. This is part of a series of events designed to raise awareness about identity theft, while helping people protect their private information. In addition there will be a drop-off box for expired and unused medication. The event will take place Saturday June 10, 2017 from 8:00 – 11:00 AM.
Identity theft is a crime where someone steals your personal information usually to commit fraud, such as applying for credit, filing taxes, or obtaining medical services. You may not know you are a victim of identity theft until you experience financial consequences, such as unexplained bills, credit collections, denied loans, and a damaged credit score.
What to Shred: Tax returns (more than five years old), old bank and credit card statements, utility bills, old medical bills, anything that has a signature, account number, social security number or medical or legal information, as well as credit offers. Note: You can bring up to five 13-gallon trash bags or bankers boxes per person
As mentioned, a drop off container for expired and unused medications will be on-site. Items accepted are prescription and over the counter solid medications, including tablets, capsules, and pet medications.
Items NOT ACCEPTED are injectable medications, syringes, needles or EpiPens, asthma inhalers, thermometers, intravenous solutions, creams, ointments or liquids.
