Joseph Cain Cecil arraigned on three counts to include premeditated first degree murder

FLORENCE, AZ (11/05/13) – Joseph Cecil, of Casa Grande, was indicted and arraigned on three counts to include premeditated first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The Probable Cause statement states Cecil was arrested on Oct. 4, 2013 after allegedly stabbing Ronna Thomas - his mother - and his aunt.  It further accuses Cecil of attempting to assault a neighbor, who provided aid to the victims.

Pinal County prosecutors presented the case to the Pinal County Grand Jury, received a True Bill, and filed an indictment for Premeditated First Degree Murder, a Class 1 Felony; Attempted First Degree Murder, a Class 2 Dangerous Felony; and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a Class 3 Dangerous Felony.

Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles stated, “We observe domestic violence in many different forms and often only learn of their dangerous circumstances too late.  As we observed Domestic Violence Awareness month in October, I can only reiterate the need for victims and their friends and families to come forward and put an end to this cycle of violence.  Through vertical-style, community-based, team prosecution, I remain dedicated to working with agencies and law enforcement to educate the public on the risks and early signs of domestic violence.”

A Pretrial Conference has been scheduled for Nov. 25 at 3:00pm before Honorable Judge Olson.  Cecil is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
