Community Shred-A-Thon in Apache Junction
FLORENCE, AZ (3/11/14) – The Pinal County Attorney’s Office, Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, Goodwill of Central Arizona and Shred-It will be holding a Community Shred-A-Thon in Apache Junction on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 8:00 am to 11:00 am.
The Bureau of Justice Statistics reports that 7% of individuals 16 or older experienced some form of identity theft in 2012. Shred-It, the company working with PCAO, PCSO and Goodwill, reports that 43% of security breaches result from physical means, such as obtaining documents improperly thrown in the trash. One way to prevent identity theft is to properly dispose of unwanted and unnecessary personal information.
Understanding the risks Pinal residents face with identity theft, PCAO, PCSO and Goodwill have joined forces to provide free document shredding for individuals willing to make a donation to Goodwill Industries of Central Arizona at the Apache Junction Store, located at 10603 East Apache Trail, Apache Junction, AZ.
Individuals who bring a donation for the Goodwill Store in Apache Junction from 8:00 am to 11:00 am will be able to shred up to five (5) 13-gallon trash bags or five (5) “banker’s boxes” per vehicle for FREE! The Shred-It truck will be located in the parking lot of the Apache Junction Goodwill Store and when making a donation, individuals wishing to participate in the Shred-A-Thon must ask for and present their Goodwill donation receipt in order to receive the free shredding services.
Further assisting individuals, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Citizens On Patrol (C.O.P.s) will be present to help unload materials to be shredded.
Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles said, “As part of an initiative to reduce identity theft and fraud within Pinal, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu and I gladly provide these services as a safe means for individuals to dispose of personal, financial, medical or otherwise private documents, while simultaneously encouraging people to give back to the community by making a donation to Goodwill Industries.”
