Gilberto B. Hoyos has served as Pinal County’s Election Director since April 12,
1982. As a native of Douglas, Cochise County, Arizona, he has over 36 years experience
in government, conducting and administering Federal, State, County, City and Town
and local elections. He attended the University of Arizona and was hired part-time
by Pima County in 1970 as an Election Technician. In 1971 Pima County placed him
on permanent status serving in numerous election classifications. In 1980 he was
named Director of Elections for Pima County. In 1982 Pinal County recruited him
to establish and administer an Elections Department.
Mr. Hoyos is a member of the International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election
Officials and Treasurers (IACREOT), Election Officials of Arizona and the Arizona
Association of Counties. He is presently State Delegation Director of the Arizona
IACREOT Delegation, served as President of the Election Officials of Arizona, served
on the Federal Election Commission Advisory Board, served on the Arizona Certification
of Election Officers Committee and on the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) State Planning
Committee. Mr. Hoyos also serves as a Board Member on the Pinal County Federal Credit
Union Governing Board. Gilberto and his wife Priscilla have three children; Ramón,
Gilberto A., Roberto R., and three grandchildren; Gilberto A. II, Arazeli L. and
Gabriela M. Hoyos.
