 Department Description

The Assessor’s Office values all locally assessed property in the county for ad valorum tax purposes. Locally assessed property is residential, owner occupied and rental, commercial property and vacant land. This provides the 158 taxing authorities their tax base.

The Assessor’s Office is also responsible for the valuation of Manufactured Housing and Business Personal Property.

The Assessor’s Office also maintains the ownership information and mapping. The office also administers the widows, widower and disability exemptions and the Senior Valuation Freeze.

To locate, Identify and appraise at current market value, locally assessable property subject to ad valorem taxes and process exemptions specified by law, through fair administration, firm enforcement, and prompt and courteous service in a manner that justifies the highest degree of public confidence in our efficiency and integrity.

 Ownership Changes

Assessor's staff is not legally trained to give advice on ownership changes.
A deed or other conveying document is a legal document and we cannot advise anyone on which type of document to use or how to word it. The Assessor's Office suggests that you seek professional help of a title company or an attorney when transferring property. If we come across a document that we would use to update our records and find what we believe to be an error, we will notify the party involved as a courtesy.
