Anthony Smith won election to the Board of Supervisors in November 2012. Prior to his election as Supervisor, Smith served as one of the original members of Maricopa’s Planning and Zoning Commission followed by two terms as the Mayor of the City of Maricopa. Supervisor Smith represents Pinal County District 4 covering an area that includes the City of Maricopa, Arizona City, Red Rock, SaddleBrooke, the Ak-Chin Indian Community and the Tohono O'odham Indian Community. During his time as Mayor, he led in the development of city’s first strategic plan; he organized partnerships with key stakeholders and improved relations with Native American communities. As Vice-President of the Can-Do Coalition, he is an advocate promoting the idea of an Interstate 11 connecting the Metro-Phoenix area with Las Vegas, Nevada.
In addition to the above activities, Supervisor Smith represents Pinal County on the following:
- County Supervisor Association Large County Caucus - Pinal County Governmental Alliance - Pinal County Town Hall ADHOC Committee - Lower Santa Cruz River Alliance Smith spent much of his professional career working in the electric utility and the telecommunications industry. He obtained certification from the Project Management Association as a Project Management Professional (PMP) in 1995. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University. Smith moved to Arizona in 1997 to work for Motorola. After moving to Maricopa in 2003, he was instrumental in helping to create or establish five non-profits. Smith has a heart for the value non-profits bring to communities and continues to promote their causes. Supervisor Smith currently resides with his wife Nancy in the City of Maricopa.
