Florence, AZ – A 19-year old Casa Grande man was indicted for the murder of a 29-year old man on April 23, 2011. A Pinal County Grand Jury returned a one-count indictment charging Rashad Gaines with second degree murder, a class 1 felony.
“Violent acts like this destroy our communities. We must hold people accountable for their actions,” said James P. Walsh, Pinal County Attorney.
According to the indictment, Gaines shot and killed Derek Shea Luedke in Casa Grande in April 2011. The Casa Grande Police Department conducted a long and thorough investigation, which led to Gaines’ arrest and indictment.
In a separate case, Gaines was indicted by a Pinal County Grand Jury for armed robbery against Scott Mueller in Casa Grande. That offense took place on April 28, 2012, according to the indictment.
Gaines is scheduled to be arraigned on August 17, 2012 in Florence, at Pinal County Superior Court for both crimes.
Gaines was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention facility on a $500,000 bond.
