PCAO: Luis Martinez, 51 of Casa Grande, indicted on 24 counts of sex-related crimes against minors
FLORENCE, AZ (10/18/13) – Luis Martinez was arraigned today in Pinal County Superior Court after being indicted on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 for 24 sex-related crimes.
The indictment alleges these crimes all occurred in or near Casa Grande, spanned from 1987 to 2006, and involved eight female victims ranging in age from 8-16 years old.
According to the indictment, Martinez faces 10 counts of Child Molestation, Class 2 Dangerous Crimes Against Children (DCAC) Felonies; six counts of Sexual Conducts with a Minor, Class 2 DCAC Felonies; three counts of Sexual Abuse, Class 3 DCAC Felonies; three counts of Sexual Abuse, Class 5 Felonies; one count of Indecent Exposure, a Class 6 Felony; and one count of Sexual Assault, a Class 2 Felony.
Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles stated, “A sexual assault occurs every two minutes in the US and victims under 18 years old represent 44% of all victims sexually assaulted. The most disturbing fact remains that only 46% of sexual assaults victims report the crime to police. Through successful prosecutions, proper advocacy, and the opening of Pinal County’s second Family Advocacy Center - one in Eloy and one planned to open in San Tan Valley in 2014 - I hope that eventually victims feel safer to come forward and sexual offenders learn their crimes will not remain silent.”
If convicted, Martinez could face up to 210 years in prison, based on the inclusion of three potential life sentences due to victims’ ages at the time of the accused offenses.
Martinez is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
