PC jury finds Casa Grande resident guilty of resisting arrest

5/4/2012

Florence, AZ – A Pinal County Jury on Wednesday found Stephen Clark Thomas, 47, guilty of one count of resisting arrest, a class 6 felony.

“Resisting arrest can lead to dangerous acts against law enforcement officers,” said James P. Walsh, Pinal County Attorney. “We are not willing to tolerate such acts.”

Thomas was arrested on Sept. 7, 2008 during a traffic stop in San Tan by a Pinal County Sheriff’s Deputy. The deputy discovered that Thomas had a warrant out for his arrest. When the deputy attempted to detain him Thomas assumed a fighting stance and refused to comply. The officer deployed his taser three times before he was able to arrest Thomas.

Thomas did not show up in court in February 2009 for his scheduled appearance. He was arrested in September 2011 in Cochise County and was brought back to Pinal County.

Thomas‘s sentencing is scheduled for June 4, 2012.

Pinal County Deputy County Attorney Greg Bizzozero prosecuted the case.
