The Audit Committee

The Pinal County Audit Committee serves to strengthen the independence, integrity and effectiveness of audit activities by providing independent oversight and support of the internal audit work plan and results, and assessing audit resource needs. The committee also helps ensure audit results are adequately communicated and that recommended improvements or corrective actions are addressed appropriately.

John Kantowski

John Kantowski was appointed to the Pinal County Audit Committee in November, 2011.  His professional background includes serving in the United States Army including a tour in Viet-Nam.  He has also owned his own business and was a Pipe fitter HVAC Instrumentation Technician.  He has trained, tested and placed personnel as a certified instructor for the United Association of Pipe fitter and Plumbers both in Chicago and Phoenix.        

John previously served as the Parks and Recreation Commissioner and Planning and Zoning Commissioner in Apache Junction and was also a Precinct Captain for 13 years in Chicago.  He is currently retired and resides in San Tan Valley.   

Larry Rains

Larry D. Rains was appointed to the Pinal County Audit Committee in February, 2012.  Larry attended Western New Mexico University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in accounting in 1989.  He later went on to earn a Master's in Business Administration from Troy University in 1997. 

For the past four years, Larry has been serving the City of Casa Grande in the position of Deputy City Manager.  Prior to this promotion, he held the position of Finance Director for 6 years.  He has 22 years of experience in Arizona Municipal Government, where he has served three cities in the capacity of Finance Director.  In addition, he served as Manager for the City of Willcox for 8 years.  His local government experience has provided him an expertise in governmental administration, accounting, finance, audit, budgeting, capital improvement planning, and economic development.    

Brian Wright

Brian Wright, Chairman, was appointed to the Pinal County Audit Committee in March, 2010.  Brian is currently the Finance Director for the City of Eloy, AZ and previously held positions as the Finance Director for Page, AZ and the Finance Officer for the City of Wilcox, AZ.  Brian received his Bachelors degree in Finance, with a minor in Accounting, from Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado.    

Brian is an accomplished government financial professional.  His current and previous professional experience includes directing and overseeing numerous and varied municipal accounting and budgeting activities. Brian is a member of the Government Finance Officers Association and serves on the Board of the Arizona Government Finance Officers Association.  He is also a member of the Mesa State Alumni Association.  He currently resides in Casa Grande, AZ.
