Maricopa Cultural Activity Center and Library came into existence in 1955 when local citizens discovered Library Extension had books to loan. The Library has been housed in the local jail, post office, and closet in an insurance company; at the local school; finally gaining it’s own land and building in 1988. The building was purchased from Williams AFB. From 1955 until 2004, volunteers operated the Library. No greater existence of community together-ness is seen than that of our community with the public library rising to meet our needs. In October 2003, Maricopa became the 88th incorporated city in Arizona. Maricopa Public Library became a city entity August 1, 2004. The Library houses a large collection of books, videos, books on tape, DVD’s, computers with Internet access - and holds weekly story times for pre-school children.
