Free eBooks for Your eReader of Choice
6/2/2011 12:49 PM

There are thousands of free eBooks available to download to your Kindle, Nook, or Kobo, but finding them can be difficult. Here are few hints to help you find free and less-expensive eBook options.

Classical Literature is often available for free from Amazon’s Kindle store and Barnes & Noble’s Nook Books store. Look for the “Free eBooks” link on the respective website. Also, look for free eBooks here:

Smashwords – an eBook publisher
Borders – books for your Kobo

Project Gutenberg makes thousands of titles available that are out of copyright, plus each book is available in multiple formats. That means it can be downloaded to a Kindle, Nook, Kobo, and several other devices.

Baen’s Free Library has a large selection of Science Fiction & Fantasy titles. Authors choose to make their works available for free, so many of the titles are the first in the series; however, their eBooks are also reasonably priced.

Recently published works are rarely available for free, but you can search for a title on InkMesh to compare prices across platforms and websites. InkMesh even provides you with information on what eBooks are free at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, and many other eBook vendor websites.
