 Friends of the Library

A board of directors was originally formed to oversee the operational needs, as well as the financial concerns, of the library. The library existed on funding from the improvement district in Arizona City, but in March 1994, the Arizona City Library faced a financial crisis when the board was informed that these funds were running out. There was enough money for one more year.

The current Friends group, The Friends of the Library of Arizona City, was organized in 1994 to deal with this crisis. There had been other groups before, but this group would eventually take over the leadership and management of the library, on April 18,1996.

Forming this type of organization gave the library a non-profit status, so now the funds we raise to support the library are tax-exempt. Donations made to the library are deposited in a non-taxable account and can be claimed on the donor's tax filing.

 Circulation Policy

The purpose of the Arizona City Community Library is to establish and sustain fair and reasonable privileges for patrons. We are a non-profit organization run by The Friends of The Library Board. Our funding is by membership pledges, donations, grants, fund raisers, memorial contributions, and county taxes.

All legal residents of Pinal County who can write their names or who are over six (6) years of age will be granted borrower's privileges. Residents who are under fourteen (14) years of age must have their parent's/guardian's written permission prior to borrowing books or library materials.

The first library card is free; after that there will be a replacement fee for lost or destroyed cards.

Patrons under sixteen (16) years of age must have their parent's/guardian's written permission prior to accessing the Internet.

The loan period for books, audio tapes and magazines is two weeks. Materials other than those in the "NEW COLLECTION" and VIDEOS maybe renewed for an additional two weeks. Videos have a $3.00 EACH refundable deposit when checked out. Videos may be checked out for 1 week. Special request material obtained through interlibrary loan may require different lending procedures.

Books in the NEW COLLECTION are limited to two (2) per patron at any one time and cannot be renewed.

New patrons will be limited to borrowing two (2) items of the library's circulating collection for the first visit. After these materials are returned, a new patron will be considered a regular library patron.

Regular adult patrons are permitted to borrow a maximum of five (5) hardback books and children are permitted to borrow a maximum of four (4) books. Exceptions are determined by the librarian or acting librarian.

Circulating materials not immediately available will be held for at least 24 hours after notification to the patron that they are now available.

Overdue fines will accrue after a five (5) day grace period, at a penalty of ten (10) cents per day for hardbacks not to exceed the book value and ten (10) cents per day for paperbacks with a maximum of fifty (50) cents.

Lost or totally damaged materials will be paid for by the responsible borrower at the replacement cost plus a $2.00 handling charge. Damage fines will not exceed the replacement cost of the damaged materials.

Any patron owing an overdue or lost book fine will not be permitted to borrow any other material until all the outstanding fines are completely paid.
