The First Bad Man
By Miranda July
From the acclaimed filmmaker, artist, and bestselling author of No One Belongs Here More Than You, this is an
anxiously paced novel that is all at once heartbreaking, dirty, tender, funny, and oftentimes cringe worthy. Reading this book was
difficult, as the skips and jumps in the main character’s mind often leave the reader struggling to determine what was reality.
The characters in this novel are all extremely bad people, making it hard to care about them. While I would say it is
the “First Bad Novel by Miranda July” I would also say it is a short read. There is a significant amount of buzz around
this book and it was recommended by comedian Lena Dunham,
but this book just did not speak to me.
