FLORENCE – Pinal County Public Works is announcing a temporary closure of the intersection of Gary and Empire Roads on Monday, November 4. This work is being completed by Pinal County Public Works staff to assist with mitigating traffic congestion anticipated with the upcoming Hunt Highway project. The anticipated start date for the Hunt Highway expansion is the week of November 11th, widening Hunt Highway from two lanes to four lanes from Empire Road to Thompson Road.

“Our Pinal County signal technicians will be working on the lights to add a left turn signal for drivers on north and south bound Gary Road,” said Supervisor Cheryl Chase. “I urge those who are driving in the area to slow down and drive with caution. This is only a temporary closure.”

Detour Routes:

  • Driving west on Empire Road: To get to Gary Road you will turn right on Charbray Drive. Follow Charbray Drive until you arrive at Gary Road.
  • Driving east on Empire Road: You are able to proceed through the intersection to continue on Empire Road. But if you need to turn north on to Gary Road, you will need to go past intersection and turn left on Charbray Drive. Follow Charbray Drive until you arrive at Gary Road.
  • Driving south on Gary Road: You will need to turn left onto Charbray Drive. Follow Charbray Drive until you reach Empire Drive, then turn right onto Empire to get back to Gary Road.
  • Driving north on Gary Road: When you approach intersection you will need to turn right onto Empire Road. Once on Empire Road you will need to turn left onto Charbray Drive. Follow Charbray Drive until you arrive at Gary Road.
Public Works will have signage out to guide drivers through the detours.
