FLORENCE – Pinal County Board of Supervisors Chairman Steve Miller has been invited to the United States House of Representatives to testify in support of a land exchange bill being debated in Congress.

The House Energy and Minerals Subcommittee will hold an oversight hearing on “America’s Mineral Resources: Creating Mining and Manufacturing Jobs and Securing America” on Thursday, March 21 in Washington, D.C.

The bill Chairman Miller will be testifying on is H. R. 697, named “Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act of 2013.” This bill would allow the government to exchange federal land with private land to allow Resolution Copper to begin the process of opening a mine near Superior.

“I am deeply honored to be asked to testify,” Chairman Miller said. “This issue of the land exchange is far too important for this county and its residents. I intend to tell the subcommittee the benefits of the Resolution Copper Project and explain the dire need for jobs in this area.”

On Wednesday, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved of a resolution urging Congress to recognize the efforts of Resolution Copper to spur economic growth in Pinal County.

“I intend to carry a copy of that resolution to the hill and show it to the members of the subcommittee,” Chairman Miller stated. “I want them to realize that this project means good paying jobs for our residents and economic growth for this county, state and nation.”
