Volunteer Program Description

Volunteers are playing an ever-increasing role in Pinal County Parks, Recreation and Fairgrounds program. Volunteers have become an integral part of the parks, open space and trails system and bring creativity and vitality to our organization. Whether it is building and monitoring trails, cleaning parks, helping at a the County Fair or Bluegrass Jamboree, planting and maintaining flower beds, working in our Administrative Office, or serving as Campground Host the assistance volunteers provide is invaluable to the Department and the County. These efforts enhance our parks, open space and trails, but also, helps citizens give back to the community, meet new people, learn new skills, and makes Pinal County a better place to live.

The Parks, Recreation and Fairgrounds Department has many different ways for you to donate your time and talents. Browse through the following volunteer program areas — we know you will find something that excites you!

Volunteer Administrative Support

This is a non-compensated, Clerical Support, volunteer position within the Pinal County Parks, Recreation and Fairgrounds. Volunteer in this position will perform clerical support of moderate difficulty. Volunteer provides clerical duties to assist department staff members in the daily function of their duties. Volunteer works under direct supervision, within the department and under the overall supervision of the department Director and Administrative Secretary. No deviation from standard, established processes is acceptable without prior approval. The work performed must adhere to high levels of responsibility and detail.

The following are examples of the work typically performed by an individual in this voluntary position. (This list is not all inclusive); Filing; Telephone calls; Data Entry; Operates a variety of office machines. Complete all initial required forms and maintain current information in volunteer file; Document and maintain daily, weekly and monthly time records and reports, as needed; Assists with correspondence, special projects, other duties as needed. Assist with public speaking and program promotion. Required Volunteers must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Demonstrate experience with general office protocol, procedures and computer programs. Any combination of formal training, certification and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Volunteers should be knowledgeable and proficient in: Business English; Spelling and Arithmetic; Filing; Documentation capabilities; Data Entry; Department protocol and compliance; Proficient with Windows/PC environment Ability to work in a focused, material sensitive environment.

Volunteer Campground Host

This is a non-compensated, Host volunteer position within the Pinal County Parks, Recreation and Fairgrounds (PCPRF). The Host will assist other visitors by providing information on the area and, in general is the PCPRF "Host" in the campground/fairgrounds where stationed. The chief function is to make other visitors feel at home. Hosts will check on the supplies within the campground/fairground facilities as directed. Restock restrooms and garbage cans. Set a good example for others in the campground. Hosts are NOT responsible for collecting campground/fairground fees from other visitors. The volunteer works under direct supervision, within the department and under the overall supervision of the department Director and Maintenance Supervisor. No deviation from standard, established processes is acceptable without prior approval. The work performed must adhere to expected levels of responsibility and detail.

The following are examples of the work typically performed by an individual in this voluntary position (This list is not all inclusive): Collecting garbage from garbage cans and rebagging cans; Providing a County presence during office staff off hours; Cleaning and restocking restrooms; Conduct RV counts and turn in results to Office Staff. Document and maintain daily, weekly and monthly time records and reports, as needed. Direct unpaid RV campers at Fairgrounds to office self-pay station; Keep an updated Volunteer Time Sheet for County reporting purposes; General facilities maintenance/cleaning.

Required Qualifications: Volunteers must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Demonstrate experience with general outdoor/indoor maintenance procedures and programs. Any combination of formal training, certification and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Volunteers should be knowledgeable and proficient in English; Spelling and Arithmetic; Documentation capabilities; Department protocol and compliance. Ability to work in a changing physical environment.

Volunteer Special Event Support

This is a non-compensated, Special Event Support, volunteer position within the Pinal County Parks, Recreation and Fairgrounds. Volunteers in this position perform special event support of moderate difficulty. Volunteer may provide physical labor or office work to assist department staff members in the daily function of their duties during special events. Volunteers work under direct supervision, within the department and under the overall supervision of the department Director. No deviation from standard, established processes is acceptable without prior approval. the work performed must adhere to high levels of responsibility and detail.

The following are examples of the work typically performed by an individual in this voluntary position. (This list is not all inclusive) Filing; Telephone calls; Data Entry; Operates a variety of office machines. complete all initial required forms and maintain current information in volunteer files; Document and maintain daily, weekly reports, as needed; Assists with correspondence, special projects, other duties as needed. Assist with public contact; Set up/breakdown of building/stage/RV/livestock setups; and ticket booth assignments.

Volunteers must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Demonstrate experience with general office protocol, procedures and computer programs. Any combination of formal training, certification and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

Volunteer should be knowledgeable and proficient in: Business English; Spelling and Arithmetic; Filing; Documentation capabilities; Data Entry; Department protocol and compliance. Able to lift no more than 40 pounds; Ability to work in a focused, material sensitive environment.


All Volunteers must:

  • Have a valid Arizona Driver's License
  • Reliable transportation
  • Provide proof of auto insurance
  • Successfully pass a complete background check for criminal history and driving record, employment, education and personal history
