On 12-06-2011, just before 10:00 p.m., PCSO dispatch received a 911 call from a citizen who reported a single vehicle rollover accident near West Phillips and South Tweedy Roads, southwest of Eloy.
A white 2007 Ford pickup driven by Robert Kettering, 18, of Casa Grande lost control and flipped with three other passengers inside.
A female passenger, identified as Courtney Paulic, 16, of Casa Grande, was ejected during the crash and died at the scene as a result of her injures.
Before being flown to the hospital, Kettering was able to identify himself as the driver and said he lost control after trying to avoid an object in the roadway.
Two other 18-year old passengers, one male and one female, were transported to separate hospitals in Phoenix.
Paulic's next of kin have been notified.
Preliminary information and evidence at the scene suggests alcohol may have contributed to the fatal crash; drug paraphernalia was also found inside the truck.
Blood samples from everyone involved were taken and will be sent to the Department of Public Safety for testing.
Charges in the collision are pending until lab results come back.
Sheriff Babeu stated,
"This is one of the toughest times of the year for law enforcement to have to tell a mother or father their child is never coming home again. It appears the circumstances surrounding this accident were completely preventable if the driver simply would have decided not to drive after drinking alcohol and possibly smoking marijuana."
