News: Donetrius Ward Arrested for Aggravated Assault

A 30-year-old Pinal County resident had listed his 1997 Cadillac Deville for sale online through “Craigslist.” On July 16th he received a phone call from a male subject who identified himself as “G.” It was later determined “G” was in fact Donetrius G. Ward (age 29 of Chandler).

The victim and Ward met in San Tan Valley later that day and Ward asked if he could drive the vehicle to his mechanic so he could inspect it. The victim drove with Ward to his mechanics house. The mechanic checked the vehicle out and then Ward and the victim left. The victim dropped Ward off at a house in San Tan Valley so Ward could think about the purchase.

On July 17th the two men met again so Ward could drive the vehicle a second time. Ward agreed to purchase the vehicle the following day.

On July 18th, the two men met so Ward could purchase the vehicle. The two drove around and then Ward stopped the vehicle and got out to check the oil. While checking the oil, Ward pulled out a handgun and said, “Check this out, I’m taking your shit.” The victim cooperated and Ward drove off with his vehicle.

The victim called 9-1-1 and reported the theft of his vehicle. The victim showed deputies where the mechanics residence (28000 block of North Epidote Drive, San Tan Valley) was and when they arrived, the vehicle and Ward were on scene. Ward was taken into custody, the handgun and vehicle were also recovered.

Donetrius Ward was booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center for one count of Aggravated Assault. He is facing additional charges of Armed Robbery and Vehicle Theft charges.
