News: PCSO Pursuit Tracks Down SUV Carrying More than Twenty-five Passengers

On 8-31-11 at 7:52 a.m., a PCSO deputy initiated a traffic stop of a Chevrolet Suburban traveling north on Sunland Gin Road, south of Eloy, for a traffic violation.

The vehicle, which was filled with passengers, did not stop and turned east onto Green Reservoir Road. While traveling east, the vehicle reached speeds of 85 mph until the driver turned south on Toltec road.

PCSO air support helped track the vehicle near a river bottom where the driver stopped the SUV and more than twenty-five people fled from inside.

Evidence at the scene indicates the passengers are suspected of being in the Unites States illegally.

Border Patrol agents responded to assist locating the suspects. Due to the heavy brush, deputies were unable to locate the driver. PCSO seized possession of the Suburban and cleared the scene as BP continued searching for suspects.

Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “This was just one of three pursuits in the past 24-hours involving my deputies, chasing suspects involved with drug and human smuggling. These pursuits put the lives of our deputies and Pinal County citizens in grave danger. Clearly, our border with Mexico is not more secure than ever. We shall continue to aggressively enforce the law against these criminals.”
