The Professional Standards Unit is responsible for three main areas of Professionalism within the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office to include Internal Affairs, Policy Development and Implementation and Internal Audits and Inspections.

The Internal Affairs Squad is staffed by one sergeant and one detective and has the responsibility to investigate internal and external complaints filed against any staff member of the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, including sworn, detention, civilian and volunteers. All of the investigations are conducted using current investigative techniques and established procedures. Recognized as a leader in the field, PCSO has been contacted by several agencies, both large and small, to conduct Internal Affairs Investigations for them.

The Internal Affairs Squad is also responsible for filing and logging all discipline rendered, filing and tracking all citizens complaints, tacking and trending all Use Of Force Incidents and Pursuits.

Policy Development and Implementation is managed through the Professional Standards Unit and responsible for ensuring that the P.C.S.O. Policy Manual is up to date with the most current state and federal laws as well as being in compliance with all applicable court rulings and Memorandums of Understandings, and Law Enforcement Best practices. This is done by ensuring that the policy manual is reviewed semi-annually.

The Professional Standards Unit also ensures that all employees have accepted their policy manuals electronically as well as tracking the competition of Daily Training Bulletins by all of the sworn members of the agency.

Internal Audits and Inspections are also conducted and / or monitored by the Professional Standards Unit. These may include audits of report competition, evidence and property, response times, training records, or any of several other topics.
