Economic Development Pinal County, Arizona

Located in the very heart of the Sun Corridor, Pinal County, Arizona has a very diverse economy. Since the county’s inception 135 years ago, copper mining has and remains a county economic mainstay, over the many years creating thousands of great paying jobs and billions of dollars in tax revenue to the state, county and local economies. Another major economic engine is agriculture. The central to western area of the county is home to hundreds of family, corporate and university based farms supporting various types of agricultural products including Pima cotton, hay, sorghum, millet, corn, sheep, dairy & feeder cattle and several varieties of fruits and vegetables.

Copper Basin Railway

The Copper Basin Railway (CBRY) is an Arizona shortline railroad that operates from a connection with the Union Pacific Railroad (UP) at Magma, AZ and running to Winkelman in central to eastern Pinal County, Arizona - a distance of 54 miles (87 km). The CBRY also has a 7-mile (11 km) branch line that runs from Ray Junction to Ray, Arizona. CBRY then interchanges with the San Manuel Arizona Railroad (SMA) at Hayden, Arizona. The CBRY is a “common carrier” rail line, capable of hauling various types of loads: copper concentrates, ore, finished and unfinished copper, sulfuric acid, lumber, Gatorade, plastics and military equipment..
