Section 8 Housing

Pinal County Housing Department (PCHD) administers the federally supported Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8), which provides rent subsidies for about 477 Pinal County households.

Who’s eligible?

Needy families and individuals who live or work in Pinal County; as well as veterans, seniors 62 and older, the disabled and the homeless may be eligible for rental assistance. The assistance comes in the form of a rental subsidy called a Housing Choice or Section 8 voucher.

What are the benefits?

Rental assistance recipients pay between 30 and 40 percent of their household income toward their rent. The balance is paid by PCHD directly to the landlord.

Where you can live?

PCHD jurisdiction is Pinal County, except the cities of Eloy and Toltec, who has its own Housing Authority. Once you obtain a voucher you will rent a privately owned rental unit managed by a landlord that has agreed to participate in the Section 8 program.

How do you apply?

Pinal County’s Section 8 waiting list is closed and will opens periodically when the need arises. Announcement of our opening the Section 8 waiting list are made on this home page and local newspapers. At that time we will also announce how to apply.

IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF HOUSING IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED YOU APPLY TO OUR CONVENTIONAL HOUSING WAITING LIST. YOU MAY BE LIVING IN A CONVENTIONAL HOUSING UNIT WHILE YOU WAIT FOR SECTION 8. (See the Convention Housing Section for more information.)
