Commissioner Biography

District 5 - Charles Goff

Charlie grew up on a dairy farm in West Virginia, where he also spent much time roaming the ridges, ‘hollers’, and trout streams - and observed the effects of wide-spread clear cutting on streams and mountainsides.  He earned a B.S in Biology near home, followed by a Ph.D. in cell biology at the University of Texas, and then a career as a biology professor in Indiana.  He and his wife Becky retired to the Colorado Rockies and became avid hikers, fishermen, explorers, and energy efficient house builders.  They also built two active and passive solar homes, co-chaired Greater Arkansas River Nature Association, co-coordinated the Upper Arkansas Watershed Council, and became avid square dancers.  Charlie also served as vice president of Chaffee County Habitat for Humanity, as an outreach liaison for the regional Presbyterian Church, and as president of the Colorado State Square Dance Association.   The Goff’s are now residents of Gold Canyon, board members of the Superstition Area Land Trust, and co-chairs of Pinal Partnership’s Open Space and Trails Committee.   They enjoy exploring, hiking, and experiencing Pinal County’s great open spaces - and hope to contribute to conservation of some of these signature places with appropriate interconnections.
