Ironwood Road Safety Improvement Project Coming Soon

Pinal County Public Works is currently advertising the Ironwood Road Safety Improvement Project for which bid documents and plans may be viewed using the link:

Project limits are from Germann Road to the Elliot alignment. Construction is anticipated to begin April 2017 and last through January 2018, lane restrictions will be in place that will allow for at least one lane open to through traffic in each direction for this 5 mile segment of Roadway.

Changeable message boards will be installed two weeks prior to the start of construction to physically notify motorists of this project and be removed when construction starts.

The scope of work consists of constructing an outside shoulder in both the North and South bound directions, construction of paved left and right turn lanes at existing access points along the corridor, embankment construction; shoulder widening, installing median cable barrier; and other related work as shown on the plans. Construction is estimated to be within the 6.6 to 7.3 Million dollar range financed by County Bonds and Highway User Fund Revenue.

Please drive with caution and be aware of all traffic signage and work crews. Please plan for extra travel time and use alternative routes if at all possible to improve your daily commute as construction delays are anticipated. We appreciate your patience as we make these necessary improvements to this major arterial connecting the Apache Junction / San Tan Valley / Queen Creek areas.

Ironwood Road from Germann Road to Elliot Road alignment is anticipated to start construction in April/May 2017 and be under construction until January 2018.  During construction Ironwood Road will remain to have two open lanes of through traffic.

Due to the upcoming safety improvement project many motorists are now planning ahead and also concerned about the ongoing Hunt Highway construction.  Pinal County Public Works anticipates construction completion of Hunt Highway Phase Three by the end of February 2017.  Hunt Highway Phase Four (Bella Vista Road to Magma Road) is anticipated to start May 2017 and be under construction until September 2018.  The construction will also include the Gantzel Connection to Hunt Highway which is the first sequence of construction.  From present through May/June 2017 utility relocations will occur on Hunt Highway to prepare for the road improvement.
