The Pinal County Board of Supervisors adopted the Open Space and Trails Master Plan that seeks to link people and population centers with the parks, trails and open space they value so much. The plan provides a guideline to ensure that the links between parks, trails, open space and population area are preserved to every extent possible.

• The large amount of public land within Pinal County offers abundant opportunities to conserve and preserve areas of significant historical, archeological, ecological or cultural value.
• Pinal County currently owns approximately 160 acres of preserved open space or parkland.
• Residents and visitors to the Pinal County also have access to 357,348 acres of National Forest, National Monument and Wilderness areas within the county.
• Several state and mountain parks are located within the County, giving residents access to another 42,572 acres. The Open Space and Trails Master Plan identifies five additional locations for potential regional parks totaling another 130,000 acres.
• Pinal County has entered into intergovernmental agreements with Maricopa and Pima Counties for the protection, preservation and management of San Tan Mountain Park and Tortolita Mountain Park.
• The County is also a partner with the Arizona Trail Association for the completion of the Arizona Trail through Pinal County. Almost 100 miles of the Trail exists in Pinal County and it is a significant recreational asset stretching over 800 miles from Mexico to Utah.
