PCSO Apprehends Burglars In the Act of Burglarizing An Arizona City Home

Posted: 7/11/2014 12:00 AM

On Thursday July 3rd, 2014 at 6:52 p.m. an observant citizen called Pinal County Sheriff’s Communications 9-1-1 to report two men were in the process of burglarizing her neighbor’s residence in the 11,000 block of West Penasco Drive, Arizona City. She further reported her neighbor was out of state and no one should be at the residence. A white pickup truck with a lifted suspension was seen dropping the two men off in front of the home. She then watched the men, who were carrying a tool bag, jump the block wall of the residence.

As deputies began surrounding the residence, they noticed a window was broken out and could hear suspects inside the home. The suspects later identified as Michael Wayne Belver, Jr. (age 24 from Eloy) and Derrick Wayne Williams (age 23 from Maples,Texas) fled through the back door of the residence and scaled the block wall. Deputies immediately began canvassing and searching the area for the suspects as other deputies searched the residence for any remaining suspects.

While deputies were in the residence, they saw it had been ransacked and also located a black tool bag the suspects were seen carrying prior to burglarizing the home.

During the search, a nearby homeowner started yelling for deputies to respond to her residence in the 16,000 block of South Caborca Circle. Upon arrival, deputies learned the male home owner was holding the door closed to his shed. He informed deputies after they began searching for the suspects, he checked his shed and saw a suspect hiding in it.

Deputies opened the shed door and observed Michael Belver hiding behind a refrigerator inside the shed. He refused all commands given by deputies. P.C.S.O. K-9 “Aza” was deployed and Belver surrendered and was taken into custody. Further search of the shed revealed Williams was hiding inside of the refrigerator and was taken into custody. After being taken into custody, Williams was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia (Meth Pipe).

After being questioned Belver admitted to burglarizing the residence, stating he needed money and decided to break into the residence. After being read his rights Williams refused to be questioned.

Belver was arrested and charged with two counts of Burglary and Criminal Damage. Williams was arrested and charged with two counts of Burglary, Criminal Damage, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “Michael Belver, Jr. and Derrick Williams thought they could victimize the homeowners while they were out of town. Thanks to this observant neighbor their plans were foiled and we were able to arrest and book them into the Pinal County Jail where they will now face the criminal justice system.”
