PCSO - One of the Best, but Always Improving
Posted: 4/4/2013 12:00 AM

In the heart of the Sun Corridor, Pinal County is 5,386 square miles, is the fastest-growing county in Arizona with nearly 400,000 residents, and the second fastest-growing county in the United States. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) provides primary law enforcement service to the majority of our county’s residents.

We have earned a national reputation as one of the most disciplined, professional and effective Sheriff’s Offices in America. I’m privileged to lead the largest law enforcement agency within Pinal County, employing nearly 700 sworn and civilian staff members, as well as 300+ volunteers.

Our Sheriff’s Office has undergone several positive changes, in order to improve public safety in Pinal County: Emergency response times have since been cut in half, over 7-million dollars in additional funding has been obtained through grants and other resources, a Regional DUI Task Force, Regional Narcotics Task Force, and Regional SWAT Team have been created or expanded. We also have the first Nationally Accredited Adult Detention Center in the State of Arizona and only the second in the entire country to receive this distinction. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our staff, we obtained the accreditation with a perfect score when tested on 594 legal based standards.

Pinal County has long been one of the main drug and human smuggling corridors in Arizona. We enforce ALL of the laws and have brought a heavy hand of enforcement against the Mexican drug cartels. During 2012, PCSO led a multi-agency operation which scored the largest drug bust in Arizona history, smashing the Sinaloa Cartel’s $2 to $3 billion dollar drug smuggling operation, arresting 76 cartel members, seizing 108 weapons including scoped rifles, AK-47’s and two guns from “Operation Fast and Furious.” This historic drug bust earned us “Top Drug Investigation in America.” by the Department of Homeland Security Investigations.

Myself and my office will continue to seek out ways to improve our law enforcement services for the citizens we serve.

Respectfully,

Paul Babeu, Sheriff
