PCSO K-9s Continue to Find Suspects and Drugs

Posted: 12/18/2013 12:00 AM

On Monday, December 16th, 2013 at 10:39 a.m. a Pinal County Sheriff’s K-9 deputy was on patrol near Eloy when he stopped a 2005 Kia passenger car eastbound on Interstate-10 near milepost 205 for a traffic violation.

The driver of the vehicle was later identified as Angelica Reynoza (age 18 of Mesa). The passenger in the vehicle was Joel Orozco (age 18 of Mesa).

The deputy’s K-9 partner conducted a “free air sniff” around the vehicle and immediately alerted to the presence of drugs. Once inside of the vehicle, the K-9 alerted to the center console.

The center console was searched and 9 grams of marijuana which were individually packaged were located. A glass pipe was also located inside of the vehicle under a blanket.

Angelica said the marijuana belonged to Joel but the pipe was hers.

Angelica and Joel were both arrested and the vehicle along with the marijuana and marijuana pipe were seized.

Angelica Reynoza was booked into the Pinal County Jail for Transportation of Marijuana for Sale and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Joel Orozco was booked into the Pinal County Jail for Transportation of Marijuana for Sale, Possession of Marijuana for Sale, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Sheriff Paul Babeu stated, “A K-9s sense of smell is 10,000 times stronger than humans. All of our K-9s are dual purpose dogs. Not only do we use them for their sense of smell but also while trying to apprehend dangerous criminals. When K-9s are used their very presence can prevent physical confrontations. Suspects know they can’t reason with the K-9, they can’t intimidate a K-9 and they can’t scare the K-9 and if they run from a K-9 they will only go to jail tired and sore.”
