"I can tell you that I am truly happier than I've been in many years. I believe that this is no coincidence!!"

In just 7 short weeks I will be turning 50 and I can honestly say that I am stronger mentally and physically than I've ever been in my life. At my heaviest I weighed 247 lbs as of this morning I weigh 182.2 I met a goal of 185 lbs several months ago, this was a goal that I had had in my mind for more than 3 years, my new goal is 176.

I have been asked by many "what are you doing?" My reply is always the same; I wake up early every morning and work very hard to be where I am. I'm working on eating healthier and simply eating, by far this is my toughest challenge, I am an EXTREMELY picky eater.

Of those that have known me for a long time I’m sure none would of thought that I would be someone to wake up each morning at 4am to go to the gym and not only go but have become truly OBSESSED with going to the gym. I have also become an avid hiker, I hike every day that I do not work, even in the very heat of our summers, during the summer I am up at 4am to be on the trail at daylight to get the hike in. Again those that have known me for years would tell you this is not like me; I’ve never been much of an outdoorsy person. I am or have been in the past terrified of lizards, but with hiking my fear has at least gotten less, I don’t completely fall apart when I come across one anymore.

This is my typical day during the week:
  1. Alarm goes off at 4AM, out the door by 4:30 work out at the gym until approx. 6
  2. Then if there is enough light or I have enough time at the end of the day I try to get a run in after work at 5:30pm 2-3 miles
  3. Then every other Friday (my Flex) and every Saturday and Sunday I hike, I try to do no less than 2 miles and up to 7-8 miles. This has become my true passion; I would hike every single day if it was possible.
“How did you began?” is another question I get asked a lot, 4 years ago I went through a very difficult time in my life and decided that I would try the gym to see if it could help with my stress. At the time I was going randomly to the gym. Then 3 years ago I moved here to San Tan and tried a few gyms unfortunately for me none of them seemed to work, I just wasn’t comfortable. So for about a year I went back to being fairly inactive. But in March of 2015 for my birthday my husband bought me a Fitbit and we joined the gym at the YMCA @ Copper Basin, and everything just clicked. I also found a personal trainer that helped me with being more comfortable lifting weights, and all the other things at the gym. And that was the beginning of me becoming a Gym Rat!

Thanksgiving Day 2015 as we had nothing planned my husband, son and I decided we’d go hike that funny little “F” Mountain (Poston Butte) just for the heck of it. That day my husband and son literally pushed and pulled me up and down that mountain, then again on New Year’s Day 2016 my husband, son and my sister and I went back up that little mountain, and that was that, I started hiking every weekend and mostly by myself. May 14, 2016 I joined the 52 Hike Challenge and on December 11, 2016 I completed the challenge having done 52 hikes in 31 weeks. What a confidence booster this challenge was for me! And I have now signed up for the 52 Hike Challenge Adventure Series.

Here is what I can tell you that I have found out during my journey. I can promise you there are no magic pills, wraps, shakes, drinks, or drops out there. There is simply hard work, dedication yes to the point of your skin crawling on the days you can't get to the gym or up the mountain. I can tell you that I am truly happier than I've been in many years. I believe that this is no coincidence!!
