Adult Probation Officer Genesiss Barrett to receive the prestigious Justice For Vets Hank Pirowski Award
Date: 6/30/2022

The Justice for Vets Hank Pirowski Award recognizes individuals and veterans treatment court teams that exemplify leadership, innovation, and professionalism. Named in honor of the coordinator of the nation's first veterans treatment court, the Hank Pirowski Award is presented annually at the National Association of Drug Court Professional conference. This year's conference is in Nashville, TN, July 25-28. Genesiss was selected from a group of nominations from 24 different jurisdictions.

Genesiss has been with the Adult Probation since 2017 and has worked as the supervising probation officer for the Pinal County Veteran's Treatment Court (VTC) since May 2018. In addition to supervising the VTC participants, she manages a mental health caseload, facilities cognitive-behavioral groups, and serves as a trainer and mentor for new officers. Genisess's case management style has allowed her to develop meaningful relationships with each client. She truly understands their needs and obstacles and seeks relationships with critical community stakeholders to benefit her clients.

Genesiss is a proud Army veteran (2008-2012), a single mom of two teenage boys, and the primary caretaker for her mother. When she's not tirelessly working to help her Veterans Treatment Court participants stay on track with their court requirements, Genesiss works a second job to cover her mother's healthcare costs. Yet, through all of her commitments, she continues to perform her job at an exemplary level.

Chief Probation Officer Rod McKone said of the honor, "Genesiss embodies our vision of building stronger communities through positive behavior change." She has dedicated herself to helping those she supervises achieve a better life. She is an inspiration to those she supervises and all of us who have the honor to serve with her. Her dedication and commitment to others is truly remarkable. Genesiss is truly deserving of this award, and we could not be more proud. She is a shining example of the quality work being done by probation officers in Pinal County and throughout the state."
