How do I send mail to an inmate? |
**Effective 7/28/2019 The Pinal County Sheriff’s office will no longer accept personal mail. All personal mail should be mailed to:

A return name and address must appear on the envelope. Failure to follow proper procedure will result in the mail being returned to the sender. The facility is not responsible for money orders sent to the wrong address but will make every attempt to obtain sent money order from vendor facility.
All mail will be scanned into the system for incarcerated individuals to view on various kiosks and tablets. If you are sending pictures and would like them returned you must include a stamped, self-addressed envelope.**

All Legal Mail is required to have a legible return address on the exterior of the mailed envelope in order to confirm the validity of the mail. If Legal Mail does not have a legible return address, it shall be subject to a necessary and appropriate search

All incoming items will be screened and may be permitted for inmate mail including:
- Letters & Drawings
- Money order/checks sent directly to Inmate Accounts. (Checks have to be Cashier, Professional, State or Governmental. No personal checks allowed)
- Up to ten (10) 4X6 or smaller photographs. (Pictures must not be pornographic or sexually explicit. Pictures containing any type of gang signs or related material shall also be denied)
- Post cards.
- Publications directly from a publisher, distributer, or authorized retailer. (Inmates/detainees are only be allowed to accumulate and maintain three books and a bible in their cells at one time)
- Legal mail pertaining to an inmate/detainee’s case or legal proceedings. (Legal mail will not undergo the same screening as regular incoming mail)
- Mail received with adhesives or All stamps shall be removed from all envelopes and papers.
- Stickers or other adhesive items will not be allowed to reduce the defacement of county property.

Why do you need my family member’s insurance information? |
To verify coverage. Some insurance companies may cover needed outside medical care such as hospitalization and/or specialty clinics. |
Can my family member use our private physician while in jail? |
No. PCSO has a physician. The records from the private physician can be obtained following guidelines of HIPPA to establish Continuity of Care. |
Will my family member get adequate medical care while in Jail? |
(Medical) PCSO Correctional Health Service is responsible for providing medical to the Pinal County Inmates. Pinal County has a moral and legal obligation to provide health care for those people whom it incarcerates. |
Why do you make them pay for medical care? (Medical) |
The cost of medical care is an increasingly heavy burden on the financial resources of the county, and it’s tax payers.
Sick call can be and is abused by some inmates. It will do away with frivolous requests for medical attention. (NCCHC, 2003) |
Will my family member get to see a religious leader while in Jail? |
Yes, we have a contract through Good News Jail and Ministries, which cover most religions. The inmates Religious leaders are also welcome to make use of the normal visitation hours if needed. Their visit will count as a regular visit. |
Will my family member get enough to eat while in Jail? |
Three meals are fed each day in the facility, ranging in calorie count of 2800 calories per day. Medical staff sees to any special needs of inmates including diabetic, allergy, low carb, low salt, and pregnancy needs. |
How do I visit someone in Jail? |
The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office has launched a state-of-the-art web video visitation system known as Securus Technologies, Inc. Visitors are now able to conduct remote video visitation from; home, office, or remote location over the Internet. Click on the visitation Tab on the left for more information. Notice: All visitors and vehicles are subject to search by Sheriff Office Personnel. |

Visitors must be of legal age 18 years, unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, proof of guardianship is required. A legally married spouse under the age of 18 may visit with proof of marriage. |

How do I get an emergency message to my family member in your custody? |
Only verifiable emergency message will be passed to your family members, Contact should be made with the on duty supervisor, all information including, name of the person calling, nature of the emergency, inmate name, name of person the emergency involves, and their relationship to the inmate, phone numbers and contact persons other than those calling.
IE: Hospital, Doctor, Religious leader. |
What may I bring into the facility when I am visiting? |
We do not permit items to be brought in while visiting; we ask that you limit your personal items to car keys, and a valid state issued identification card. Those visitors with infant children will be permitted, 1 bottle, 1 blanket, and 1 diaper. Other food and drink items are prohibited in the facility. |
What is the proper dress code for visitation? |
While it is impossible to cover all approved or unapproved clothing, common sense and good judgment should always be used.
Clothing that is reveling i.e. low cut front, tank tops, tube tops, spaghetti straps, short shorts, see thru tops, and mini skirts are not permitted, We also restrict hats, sunglasses, purses, cell phones, along with all other electronic equipment. |
May I drop off clothing and food items for my family member? |
No, the facility will not accept food at any time. Clothing items may only be brought in for an Inmate that is to appear for a Jury Trial, These should be arranging thru the inmates Attorney of Record. All items used for trial must be picked up with in 5 business days of the close of the trial. |
How do I pick up my family members property? |
A family member in custody may submit a form releasing property to a specific person. Property will be released once and only once. All items held with the exception of clothing and shoes must be released at this time. Once the form is received by the Property Room the person specified is able to pick up property 7 days a week (except holidays) 9:30 a.m – 4:30 p.m. The person picking up the property must be the person listed and provide a valid state issued, picture I.D. to pick up the property. Persons should call the day before property pick up to ensure that all necessary paperwork has been completed.
COVID-19 ALERT : During restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19, it is highly recommended that you call ahead to Property staff to schedule your pick up time. This will ensure that you are granted access to the lobby, and allow us to better serve you. Additionally, we do require all who enter the lobby to wear a face mask and follow CDC guidelines associated with COVID-19.

If my family member has a complaint, how do they try to solve it? |
Complaints are first taken to the Officer assigned for each shift. If the Officer cannot satisfactorily solve the complaint, the Inmate will need to request to see a Supervisor. When a Supervisor cannot resolve the issue, the next step is to file a Grievance through the Grievance Procedure. Instructions on how to do this properly are placed on the bulletin boards in each Housing Unit. Complaints of a frivolous nature will not be accepted. |
What happens if our family member gets in trouble while in jail? Will they have to stay there longer? |
Disciplinary does not add more time unless they are charged criminally. If they do not follow rules within the facility they will lose privileges such as visitation, commissary and possible segregation from other Inmates. |
What if my family member has an appointment with an outside physician while in jail? |
Due to security reasons, outside appointments are cancelled and jail medical provider reviews medical issues. |
What happens if a family member in jail is indigent “without money?” |
No inmate is denied medical care because of a record of non-payment or current inability to pay. |
What is the estimated time for an inmate’s release? |
Releases can take up to 4 hours from the time the release paper work is received from the court and/or bond is posted. |
How can my family members contact me? |
Inmates are allowed to use the phones in their housing areas from 0700 until 930pm unless restrictions are put in place due to security reasons. All phone calls are through Securus Technologies Service. To contact Securus with questions call 1-800-844-6591. They provide a fast, secure, and convenient way to fund inmate accounts for commissary, telephone, and self bail. They can also contact you through the US Postal Service.

What are the requirements of the Work Release Program? |
The PCSO – Adult Detention Center will require the following information and or documentation from the sentenced party at least five days in advance of the commitment period before a Work Release agreement will be granted or have on their person on date of remand by a Judge before a Work Release agreement will be granted: (You must already been sentenced prior to meeting)
- Proof of a valid and current Driver’s License or State Issued Photo Identification
- Proof of a valid and current Driver’s License for the person who will transport the Sentenced Party to and from the place of employment
- Proof of current Automobile Insurance
- Proof of current Vehicle Registration
- Sentenced Party’s current residential address
- Copy of the Commitment Order granting Work or School eligibility
- Official letterhead from employer identifying work schedule; business address; contact information for the immediate supervisor of the sentenced party.
- Copy of recent pay stub.
- Self Employed – copy of State of Arizona business license; business address. Business must be separate from home address.
- School – official letterhead from the educational institution identifying class schedule; physical address of the institution.
- Participants will be charged a $15.00 processing fee for each day of participation in either a Work or School release program.
Participants sentenced outside the jurisdiction of Pinal County will be charged a onetime processing and booking fee of $193.86 and $15.00 for each subsequent day of participation in either a Work or School release program. Note: All Work or School releases are reviewed and approved or denied by the Pinal County Adult Detention Center Administration on a case by case basis.
A prisoner is not eligible for a prisoner work, community restitution work and home detention program or a continuous alcohol monitoring program if any of the following applies:
· After independent review and determination of the jail's classification program, the prisoner is found by the sheriff to constitute a risk to either himself or other members of the community.
· The prisoner has a past history of violent behavior.
· The prisoner has been convicted of a serious offense as defined in section 13-706 or has been sentenced as a dangerous offender pursuant to section 13-704 or repetitive offender pursuant to section 13-703.
· Jail time is being served as a result of a felony conviction.
· The sentencing judge states at the time of the sentence that the prisoner may not be eligible for a prisoner work, community restitution work and home detention program or a continuous alcohol monitoring program.
· The prisoner is sentenced to a county jail and is being held for another jurisdiction.

Please don’t email your documents; they must be originals only, brought with you to the required meeting at least 5 business days prior to your incarceration. |
How to self surrender |
Persons directed by the presiding court are to appear at the PINAL COUNTY ADULT DETENTION CENTER on the date and prescribed time as set forth by the court order. Persons must have a valid form of identification and may not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
