THE PINAL COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE CHARGES MAN AFTER HIS PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND WAS FOUND SHOT INSIDE HER HOME Posted: 9/18/2018 12:00 AM | MEDIA RELEASE CONTACT: Navideh Forghani (520) 866-5208
CASA GRANDE, AZ - The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office was called out to a home on the 5900 block of N Fuchsia Street in Casa Grande for a burglary in progress. Someone at the house reported that they heard a single gunshot come from inside the home.
When deputies responded, they found the 30-year-old victim, who was seven months pregnant, in the bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head. Twenty minutes after the initial call, the victim’s boyfriend, 23-year-old Javier Figueroa of Casa Grande, arrived on scene. He drove up in the victim’s car. Deputies noticed Figueroa had what appeared to be blood on him. Figueroa made statements to deputies, indicating it was an accident.
The victim was airlifted to a local hospital and is currently in a medically-induced coma. Doctors were able to successfully deliver the victim’s child, who is 2-month premature. Currently, the baby is in stable condition.
"We are thankful to the doctors and EMTs who worked hard to save the baby's life. Right now, the baby's mother is not doing well. We ask that you keep her in your thoughts and prayers," said Sheriff Mark Lamb, Pinal County.
Figueroa was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault and Misconduct Involving Weapons. This is an ongoing investigation and Figueroa could face additional charges.
